Punditician

A place to rant about politics, the media, and especially the electorate. Much like alcohol, the electorate is both the cause of, and the solution to, all of America's problems.

From the What-Planet-Do-You-Live-On Department....

FEMA (of "you're doin a heckuva a job Drownie" fame) lists the Katrina response as one of its top 3 achievements of 2005.

I'm not kidding.

Really.

In case they catch too much shit for it, and take it down like the cowards republicans are, here's the relevant text:

11. Top FY05 DHS Accomplishments: FEMA

DHS Today will highlight FY05 Accomplishments in this column over the next several weeks. This week’s focus is on the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The top FY05 FEMA accomplishments included:

* Hurricane Katrina: The response to Hurricane Katrina was FEMA’s largest response in its history. The aid given within six weeks of landfall included almost $3.8 billion for more than 1.24 million households. More than half a million people visited 100 Disaster Recovery Centers that had been quickly created across the Gulf Coast. Working through the American Red Cross, FEMA supported the nation’s largest-ever sheltering operation, with more than 273,000 evacuees at the peak. In addition, again working with the Red Cross, FEMA paid to house more than 600,000 people in emergency hotel housing. Almost 70,000 temporary roofs had been put on damaged homes through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, more than 16,000 manufactured homes or travel trailers had been placed on site, and 20 million cubic yards of debris had been picked up.

To gw, veterans aren't even worthy of a new speech....

The jackass can't be bothered for something so small as a brand-new speech to honor the soldiers who fight and die for our country. All gw can do is repeat an old, canned speech from over a month ago. Jackass.

Among other things, it's an indicator of how little game gw-and-his-handlers have left in them. They got nothin.

Support your troops, you jackass republicans!

Kansas declares Emancipation From Education...

... saying to the rest of the country: "Fuck Louisiana! WE'RE the stupidest state in the country!"

More down-to-earth, the Kansas Board of Education (sic) decided that Intelligent Design is the way to go, saying that evolution has been challenged by, among other things, molecular biology.

For my money though, the quote of the day is:

In addition, the board rewrote the definition of science, so that it is no longer limited to the search for natural explanations of phenomena.

According to the story, 6 republicans voted to destroy education, and 2 voted to uphold it - but the story fails to say which republicans voted which way. Whatever - let's take a look at some of the highlights of all 8 of the republican board members, who are oh-so knowledgeable that they felt competent to rewrite THE VERY DEFINITION OF SCIENCE:

Carol Rupe (carolrupe@hotmail.com)
Executive Director of the Financial Fitness Foundation
Carol has also served on boards for Leadership 2000, the Quivira Boy Scout Council, Episcopal Social Services, WISE, and the Junior League of Wichita.

Iris Van Meter
(vanmeter@terraworld.net)
Iris graduated from Kentucky Mountain Bible College in 1956 with a degree in Christian Education.

Steve Abrams (sabrams@hit.net)
Steve owns a veterinary practice in Arkansas City.
Once served as president of Rural Water District number 6.

Kenneth R. Willard (kwillard@cox.net )
He currently serves as a district manager for an insurance company, managing 25 agencies in south-central and southwest Kansas.

Kathy Martin (martinkathy@yahoo.com)
Kathy earned her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in 1967, and her Masters in Special Education in 1984, both from Kansas State University.

Connie Morris
(conniemorris2010@yahoo.com)
Connie and her husband Kelly farm and ranch and own a plumbing business in St. Francis where they have resided for 12 years.

John Bacon (jwmsbacon@aol.com)
John earned his Bachelor's degree in accounting from Mid- America Nazarene University in 1985 and is now self-employed as a certified public accountant.

Sue Gamble
(MSGamble@swbell.net)
She earned her Associate Degree from Johnson County Community College and a Bachelor's Degree in social work from the University of Kansas.
She is currently an associate broker with MJ Allen & Associates.

That's who redefined what science is folks - social workers, real estate agents, plumbers, and bible school graduates. It's also worthy of note that the only board member with a serious education in an intellectually serious field is a Democrat (Ph.D., history).

Feel free to email each and every one of them and let them know what you think. That's why, presumably, their email addresses were made publically available.

So let the jokes come rolling forth; let nothing stem the tide (I suspect nothing will). Here's my initial #1:

Q: What's stupider than a kid from Kansas?

A: Nothing.

lololol

On torture.

There's been quite a bit of a to-do about the gw administration's support of torture recently (example). Government support of torture is just about the most idiotic thing ever. There are essentially three reasons why, and the thing is, any ONE of them are showstoppers on their own. In no particular order, they are:

(1) It doesn't work. People being tortured don't give a rat's ass about the truth - they just say whatever makes you stop torturing them.

(2) It leads directly to the torture of our own people. Let me say it more strikingly: to support the torture of others is to support the torture of your own.

(3) It's one of the most morally evil things a person or institution can engage in.

I'd love to see, as an intellectual matter, a decent, rational rebuttal of any of these three.

Dammit Drownie! ROLL UP THE SLEEVES!

Well, if you're not actually going to *be* hard-working...

Here's the content of an email from Drownie's press secretary to Drownie:

Please roll up the sleeves of your shirt...all shirts. Even the President rolled his sleeves to just below the elbow.

In this crises and on TV you just need to look more hard-working...ROLL UP THE SLEEVES!

What a tool. His press secretary can't even write decent English. Drownie has to be *told* to look hard-working (the people who know this best are the lazy smart ones).

Republicans. The party of looks - stupid, stupid looks.

You're doin a heckuva job Drownie!

This has to be close to the top of the list of headlines-not-to-make:

Here's a bunch of Drownie's emails - what a tool.

From the Gee-I-REALLY-didn't-see-that-coming Dept.....

The republican judge took himself out, after Earle says what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

AUSTIN, Texas - Two days after U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay won a fight to get a new judge in his case, prosecutors on Thursday succeeded in ousting the Republican jurist responsible for selecting the new judge.

Stupid republicans. There is no Pandora's Box they won't open, just to save one of their evil own...

From the Gee-I-didn't-see-that-coming Dept.....

Ronnie Earl, Delay's prosecutor, doesn't want a republican judge to determine who will hear the case against Delay...

Recall that a republican judge agreed with Delay that a judge who contributed to Democratic causes was unfit to hear a case against a republican.

Hey Imus! Your wife is a stupid, horny slut!!

Don't look at me - I'm just the messenger. Ricky Man-Dog-sex Santorum's the one who said it....

BTW: I really hope someone gets Imus' day-thought-out response on tape. I betcha it'll be awesome.

No Democrat should allow themselves to be tried by a republican judge EVER.

They removed a judge because he donated to Democratic causes. So much for freedom speech, eh?

Hey Democrats - fighting Scalito would be an EXCELLENT idea!

This seems perfectly obvious, but possibly not to the shitting-their-pants-scared Democrats we have running our damn party...

We're all set to boot the republicans out of Congressional power - even the evil that is their own base has trouble living with the criminality that is endemic to their party. So filibuster Scalito. Force republicans to do away with the filibuster. Then they lose power next year, and they're screwed. Give them the rope with which they will be hung.

Now is the time for bold action, you fucking wusses. Step up to the plate. This is the fight we've been waiting for, and the majority of the American public is on our side - they just don't like to say so because you guys act like fucking pussies all the time.

Update: Shutting down the Senate? Excellent start! Give 'em hell, Harry!
