Punditician

A place to rant about politics, the media, and especially the electorate. Much like alcohol, the electorate is both the cause of, and the solution to, all of America's problems.

My, how the mighty have fallen....

There used to be a time when Carnegie Mellon was the bees knees in computer science - telling the world about all sorts of fascinating things like the strongly typed lambda cube and what-not.

Now, they tell us how to click Tools->Options on our web browser.

Here's a pearl of wisdom from the page, which is typical of the whole:

To edit the settings for Mozilla Firefox, select Tools, then Options.

In fairness, the report provides a picture. A great many screenshots are provided, in fact, presumably to accomodate the large number of literacy-challenged the country is currently producing.

I'll be damned - stupidity really IS contagious - it's gone from the general populace all the ladder to CMU. Sigh. Maybe gw is right - maybe federal funding for college students SHOULD be cut - this kinda crap is just ridiculous.

I wonder if the next CMU study will be to determine what the internet is REALLY for...

Whittington = Mr. Joshua

Wow - that's some badass loyalty the republicans got going on. You can shoot the motherfucker in the FACE, and he'll apologize to YOU. Can you believe that motherfucking shit?

Reminds me of that old Lethal Weapon scene where the head bad guy burns Mr. Joshua with a lighter to prove how loyal and trustworthy he was.

I'm DEFINITELY not badass enough to be a republican...

Reminds me of that old Eddie Murphy SNL skit...

... where he dresses up like a white guy to find out just how great life is - was hilarious.

But no black or latino guy can remotely countenance the notion of shooting a 78 year old white guy in the face with a shotgun at 20 yards and not get arrested. Here's an example of what kind of treatment non-whites can expect.

Two Americas indeed. Rule of law indeed.

Accountability, Cheney-style

ReddHedd nails just how much of a wussy wimp-boy Cheney is:

Just in case you were wondering, it's been FOUR days since the Vice President of the United States shot a man in the face, neck and chest, and still no public accounting and acceptance of responsibility from him. Nada. Zip. Zero.

Still hiding behind Mary Matalin's and Katherine Armstrong's skirts -- allowing them to take all the media heat, along with Scotty McClellan, who faced another round of peppering from a still-pissed press corps, who seem to be sick of being lied to by this White House.

I suppose it shouldn't come as a surprise, seeing that it is Dick Cheney and all...but still, what kind of message is that sending to the kids in this country?

"Go ahead and shoot your friends. Then blame them for getting in the way of the shot, and have a female friend deal with the press for you so you can hide behind her skirts and never have to accept any responsibility. Ever."

Her whole post is excellent - go read it.

Megadeath knows just how much of a fucking pussy Cheney is

A Pittsburgh tv news station reports on Cheney's girlygirl wimpiness.

Megadeath's song 'Countdown To Extinction' sums up Cheney's dickless lack of manliness rather well:

Endangered species, caged in fright,
Shot in cold blood, no chance to fight.
The stage is set, now pay the price.
And ego boost, don't think twice.
Technology, the battle's unfair,
You pull the hammer without a care.
Squeeze the trigger that makes you Man,
Pseudo-safari, the hunt is canned...
The hunt is canned

All are gone, all but one.
No contest, nowhere to run.
No more left, only one.
This is it, this is the countdown to extinction

Tell the truth, you wouldn't dare.
The skin and trophy, oh so rare.
Silence speaks louder than words.
Ignore the guilt and take your turn.
Liars anagram is "lairs,"
Man you were never even there.
Killed a few feet from the cages,
Point blank, you're so courageous...
So courageous

"One hour from now,
Another species of life form
Will disappear from the face of the planet
Forever... And the rate is accelerating."

Commit Treason? That's Ok - Just Tamper With The Jury!

The White House has been twisting arms to ensure that no Republican member votes against President Bush in the Senate Judiciary Committee’s investigation of the administration's unauthorized wiretapping.
Congressional sources said Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove has threatened to blacklist any Republican who votes against the president. The sources said the blacklist would mean a halt in any White House political or financial support of senators running for re-election in November.

One-trick ponies often go down due to somebody else exploiting the fact that they only have one trick. Will Rove go down in this fashion?

Gonzales Tells Congress Just How Stupid Bush Really Is

Today while lying to an aquiescent Congress, Gonzales explained just how stupid gw is:

BIDEN:
Thank you very much.

General, how has this revelation damaged the program?

I'm almost confused by it but, I mean, it seems to presuppose that these very sophisticated Al Qaida folks didn't think we were intercepting their phone calls.

I mean, I'm a little confused. How did it damage this?

GONZALES:
Well, Senator, I would first refer to the experts in the Intel Committee who are making that statement, first of all. I'm just the lawyer.

And so, when the director of the CIA says this should really damage our intel capabilities, I would defer to that statement. I think, based on my experience, it is true -- you would assume that the enemy is presuming that we are engaged in some kind of surveillance.

But if they're not reminded about it all the time in the newspapers and in stories, they sometimes forget.

Those Al Quaeda "idiots" beat the best gw had to offer by way of defending America. Hence gw is even stupider than an idiot.

Tangentially, gonzales implicitly told us just how stupid HE is - stupid for thinking that EVERYONE would fall for what has to be the Worst. Lie. Ever.

I Bet The American Public Really IS That Stupid

I bet that in the coming days, we'll see polls showing that a substantial percentage of the idiot American public believes the following to actually be true:

President Washington, President Lincoln, President Wilson, President Roosevelt have all authorized electronic surveillance on a far broader scale. - Alberto Gonzales to Congress.

They don't say this shit randomly, guys. They say it because they know perfectly well that Americans are stupid enough to go along with it.

A Tale Of Two Letters

I'll post two letters, from two Senators, below. I'll leave out who they're from. You decide which Senator is a fine example of a human being, and which is nothing more than an ass.

Letter 1:

I would like to apologize to you for assuming that your private assurances to me regarding your desire to cooperate in our efforts to negotiate bipartisan lobbying reform legislation were sincere. When you approached me and insisted that despite your leadership's preference to use the issue to gain a political advantage in the 2006 elections, you were personally committed to achieving a result that would reflect credit on the entire Senate and offer the country a better example of political leadership, I concluded your professed concern for the institution and the public interest was genuine and admirable. Thank you for disabusing me of such notions with your letter to me dated February 2, 2006, which explained your decision to withdraw from our bipartisan discussions. I'm embarrassed to admit that after all these years in politics I failed to interpret your previous assurances as typical rhetorical gloss routinely used in politics to make self-interested partisan posturing appear more noble. Again, sorry for the confusion, but please be assured I won't make the same mistake again...
As I noted, I initially believed you shared that goal. But I understand how important the opportunity to lead your party's effort to exploit this issue must seem to a freshman Senator, and I hold no hard feelings over your earlier disingenuousness. Again, I have been around long enough to appreciate that in politics the public interest isn't always a priority for every one of us. Good luck to you, Senator.

And letter 2, the response:

[I] am puzzled by your response to my recent letter. Last Wednesday morning, you called to invite me to your meeting that afternoon. I changed my schedule so I could attend the meeting. Afterwards, you thanked me several times for attending the meeting, and we left pledging to work together.
As you will recall, I told everyone present at the meeting that my caucus insisted that the consideration of any ethics reform proposal go through the regular committee process. You didn't indicate any opposition to this position at the time, and I wrote the letter to reiterate this point, as well as the fact that I thought S. 2180 should be the basis for a bipartisan solution.
I confess that I have no idea what has prompted your response. But let me assure you that I am not interested in typical partisan rhetoric or posturing. The fact that you have now questioned my sincerity and my desire to put aside politics for the public interest is regrettable but does not in any way diminish my deep respect for you nor my willingness to find a bipartisan solution to this problem.

Supporting the troops - republican-style...

Apparently to republicans, "supporting the troops" now includes the Commander In Chief arranging for them to be murdered.

President Bush said: "The US was thinking of flying U2 reconnaissance aircraft with fighter cover over Iraq, painted in UN colours. If Saddam fired on them, he would be in breach."

Let there never be a question about what "support the troops" means to republicans ever again.

New recruitment video...

Because the military decided that it's time to start telling the truth...

You wanted to know just *how* corrupt republicans are?

They're so corrupt they can't even hold a fair election only among themselves.

Good thing there are so many values-voters who care about such things.

UPDATE: Turns out Ohio republican John Boehner is the new Speaker. For an understanding of the kind of 'honor and dignity' we can expect from an Ohio republican, click here.

Good thing there aren't any republican corruption scandals in DC, else I'd be worried.

Shorter Greenwald: faux-conservatives are fucking stupid

Check it out.

University to Hooters: "We're the bitch's pimp - get the fuck out!"

"JOHNSON CITY - A former East Tennessee State University cheerleader contends that she was dismissed from the squad because of her job at a restaurant known for tight-fitting, scanty uniforms."

Sounds like an anti-trust issue to me.

And note that the school in question is a PUBLIC school. So now programs at public schools are only available to students who work in certain professions? What about if a student worked at a spousal abuse shelter?

Cmon republican-bitch-voters - get Uncle Sam out of your business!

Together at last, together at last....

Thank God Almighty, they're together at last...

RIP, Mr. & Mrs. King.
